To learn a language I have noticed that one must have a good base to start from. This means learning grammar and vocabulary. Once a student of mine has sufficient handle of the basics I them try and make learning a language fun and interesting (learning songs, debating in class, reading and discovering a new culture). The important thing is not to be shy and make mistakes! That's the only way to get better :)
