About Becky
My name is Becky, owner of Becky’s Art House. I struggled with Eating Disorders, Depression, Anxiety and PTSD for a period of my life, and always used creativity as a strong tool to cope. After finding my way through all these personal challenges, I became an artist and now I would like to share what I have learnt with others!
I am a huge lover of the outdoors and travel and I am very passionate about recovery from mental illness, and how real and achievable it is for everyone- no matter how low you feel.
Disclaimer: I am NOT an art therapist. This is not art therapy but rather art for use as therapy (for the therapeutic benefits that come from creating.) I am an experienced artist, and a good listener with a good understanding of how people struggle. I cannot provide advice, but rather a tool for you to use.

For many struggling with mental illness, just getting out of bed is difficult- I understand that. So, these classes can be structured so that you can do them from your couch, bed, desk or wherever suits you. We can work with styles as simple as a pen and paper, paint and other mediums so that you always have easy access to creating.
This is a great alternative to social media or television when you’re stuck in a low spot. Creativity is fantastic for mental health and a great avenue to explore.
Through a period of severe mental illness, I took up art when I couldn’t leave the house, and often the couch. After a year, I was participating in exhibits and selling art successfully from several venues. It has changed my life, and I am very passionate about sharing this with others. I am now a full time freelance artist that speaks very openly about mental illness and centre my work around this.
As someone who has had experiences with very low spots mentally, this is a safe space where you can be understood and come without any judgement, and simply try something new in your path to recovery.
I have a degree in Creative and Professional Writing, so creative writing can also be incorporated into this work.
