About Maria
Hi, I’m Maria! Outside of academics, I love staying creative and trying new things. I’m a dancer, and a fun fact about me is that I was part of an internationally competitive dance team at UBC. I also enjoy painting, drawing portraits, spending time in nature, and exploring new hobbies whenever I can. I used to play piano and guitar, so music and creativity have always been a big part of my life.
Another fun fact about me is that I did not always enjoy math. I only started to appreciate it more in university, when it became more visual, applied, and connected to everyday life. That experience shaped the way I see learning: sometimes a subject just needs to be explained in a way that finally clicks.

My tutoring approach is patient, clear, and focused on helping students truly understand the “why” behind each step. I teach Calculus 1, 2, and 3 by breaking down difficult concepts into simple explanations, then applying them through guided examples and practice problems. My goal is to help students feel more confident with problem-solving, especially for quizzes, midterms, and finals.
A typical lesson starts with a quick review of the student’s current topic, homework, or confusing concepts. Then, I explain the key idea step by step, work through examples with the student, and give them practice questions to try on their own. I focus on identifying where the student gets stuck so we can fix misunderstandings early.
What sets me apart is that I understand what it feels like to struggle with technical courses, so I explain concepts in a simple and relatable way. As a fourth-year UBC Economics student with a Commerce minor, I have experience with university-level quantitative courses and know how important clear methods and exam practice are.
My lessons are best for high school students, first-year university students, and anyone taking Calculus 1, 2, or 3 who wants patient, exam-focused support.
