About Sahil

I am a fourth-year medical student at the University of Toledo College of Medicine, and most of what I know about teaching came from being on the other side of it — sitting with material that refused to make sense until someone finally explained it in a way that fit how I actually think.

Alongside my clinical training I have spent the last several years in research, with roughly sixty peer-reviewed publications and a number of presentations at national conferences, and that work has shaped how I teach as much as my coursework has: I am used to reading a study closely enough to know what it does and does not show, and I try to pass that habit on rather than asking anyone to take a textbook claim on faith.

Outside of medicine I paint, and I have spent a lot of time on advocacy and nonprofit work, including co-founding two organizations focused on food security and on supporting patients living with chronic skin disease. I mention it because it is the same instinct that brings me to tutoring — I like sitting with someone one-on-one and working through whatever is in front of them until it gives.

I speak English, Hindi, Punjabi, and Urdu, and I am happy to work in whichever one makes the explanation easiest to follow.

I am a fourth-year medical student, and my approach to tutoring grows directly out of the way I had to learn this material myself — not by memorizing isolated facts, but by understanding how a pathway or a structure fits into the larger system it belongs to, which is the only thing that holds up when an exam question asks you to reason rather than recall.

A typical session begins with you telling me where the material stopped making sense, because the point at which a student gets lost is usually several steps earlier than the question they came in with, and finding that point is half the work. From there I walk through the concept using diagrams, analogies, and worked problems rather than lecturing at you, and I stop frequently to have you explain the idea back to me, since the moment you can teach something is the moment you actually know it. We finish by pulling out the two or three ideas that carried the session, so you leave with something you can review rather than a blur of notes.

What sets me apart is that I have spent years on both sides of this material —as a student learning it under exam pressure, and as a researcher who has published extensively and presented that work at national conferences, which means I can explain not only what the textbook says but why the field believes it and where the evidence actually came from. I also work with students in Hindi, Punjabi, and Urdu when that makes the explanation land more easily.

My lessons are for undergraduate and pre-medical students taking biology, biochemistry, physiology, anatomy, and genetics, whether you are trying to pull a struggling grade back up, build a foundation solid enough to carry you into medical school, or simply stop feeling like you are drowning in a course that moves faster than you do.
