About Hilton
I want to let students know that I am a professional tutor. I want you to succeed, and will help you to do so (e.g., I have done so over the years for a family consisting of three siblings- two are in university, one is in high school, and they still reach out to me for academic assistance). My many years of experience in tutoring have made me to become more adept at helping students master very difficult topics. I see potential pitfalls, and alert students to what they are, and how to avoid them. In addition, I will show you various strategies and shortcuts to solving problems, as well as how to use the power of approximation (for Math problems) to check whether your work is correct.

In my first meeting with a student, I usually try to determine the academic strengths and weaknesses of the student through a diagnostic mini test appropriate for the subject level of the student. In many cases, some students already know what their weaknesses are, and would convey such info to me. Next, I would try to determine the goal of the lesson(s). Does the student want to review topics for an upcoming test/quiz, or does the student want to continue with regular lessons in preparation for a distant exam such as the AP (taken in May), or does the student want to meet continuously for homework help?
My goals in tutoring are to strengthen the weaknesses of the student, and to build up the confidence level of the student. With over 20 years experience in tutoring at all levels (middle school, high school, and college), I am familiar with techniques that help students to master very difficult topics. A typical lesson plan may involve reviewing the prerequisites for understanding the topic under consideration. For instance, does the student have the math requirements to proceed with the topic; if not, then we'll first ensure that the student master these requirements. I have come across cases where students have a good conceptual understanding of a topic, yet fail to solve the problem because of simply not knowing how to properly use a calculator (Don't laugh! Even college students have messed up solving problems because their calculator was in the wrong mode, e.g., degrees instead of radians, or vice versa). In my lessons, I do not lecture! I usually guide the student in the art of problem solving, or understanding the concepts (e.g. what does Newton's third law of motion imply? What examples can be used to ensure that students have a good understanding of the law?).
As a tutor, I care for my students, and will go all the way to help them. I want my students to succeed, because their success is also my success.

I know Hilton as my brother used to take lessons from him in highschool and now I do. I use Hilton for mathematics and science as he knows every type of each subject really well, and he’s even better at teaching it to students. I would recommend Hilton to other students because of his ability to make something that appears challenging at first, easy within only a lesson, and is extremely good at explaining why and how he got the answer. Both my brothers and I have been using him to tutor us for years now, and we’ve thrived off of his teaching as both my brothers are in college now and Hilton played a significant role in that, and now he’s doing the same thing with me.
