About Sarah

Hello! I’m Sarah, a university student with a strong academic background in Latin. I studied Latin at Colchester County High School for Girls, where I achieved an A at A-Level, and explored a rich range of texts including Ovid’s Metamorphoses, Virgil’s Aeneid, Tacitus’ Histories, and Apuleius’ The Golden Ass. Though I haven’t formally studied Latin since sixth form, I remain deeply connected to the subject. My Latin teacher, who had a profound influence on my academic journey, shaped the way I understand and appreciate this language. I carry her legacy into every lesson: with clarity, care, and a belief that Latin doesn’t have to be intimidating. I have kept up with Classical Literature and Latin vocabulary. My approach is structured, supportive, and student-led. I tailor each session to your needs, so whether that’s building confidence in translation, strengthening grammar skills, or unpacking tricky set texts. I’m especially passionate about helping students who feel overwhelmed, behind, or anxious about exams. You can trust that I’ll bring both professionalism and empathy to our sessions. About the lesson

As a tutor, I focus on creating a supportive, structured, and engaging environment, especially for students who find Latin overwhelming or outdated. I understand that Latin can feel intimidating, so I tailor each session to meet the student exactly where they are, building both their technical skills and their confidence. My teaching style blends traditional grammar and vocabulary drills with modern techniques like storytelling, visual aids, and memory devices. I incorporate the methods that helped me most when I was studying, many of which were passed down from my own Latin teacher who deeply shaped how I learnt and approached the subject. A typical lesson begins with a warm-up (usually vocab recall or a quick translation exercise), followed by focused work on grammar or set texts. We end with a short recap or mini quiz to reinforce what we’ve covered. I am also able to provide optional worksheets, past paper walkthroughs, and study tips between sessions if a student wants extra support. What sets me apart is the emotional investment I bring to each session. Latin is more than a subject to me—it’s something I connect to on a personal level. I teach with the hope of passing on not just technical understanding, but a real appreciation for the logic and beauty of the language.
