About Virginia
I worked as an au pair abroad for a couple of years, and that experience is honestly where my teaching journey properly started, helping the children I looked after with their language homework most evenings. Three years into teaching more formally now, I've worked with about forty-five students, mostly children and teenagers who respond well to a relaxed, friendly approach rather than something overly formal. I'm still early in my own teaching career, and I say that honestly, since I think transparency matters more than pretending to be something I'm not just yet. My real strength lies in genuine patience and a relaxed, non-intimidating teaching style, built directly from real experience with actual kids rather than theory alone. I connect particularly well with younger, shyer students, since that's exactly the age group I spent the most time with during my au pair years abroad. My teaching style is casual and warm, closer to an older sibling helping with homework than a strict, formal classroom teacher. Watching a nervous kid relax and actually start chatting confidently remains genuinely the best part of this whole thing for me. I'm building my experience one student at a time, and I think that honest, still-growing energy genuinely helps younger students feel more comfortable.

I worked as an au pair for a couple of years, picking up teaching almost by accident from helping the kids in my host family with their homework every evening. My lessons stay pretty casual, honestly, closer to a friendly chat than a formal class, because that's genuinely the vibe that worked best with the kids I looked after. We talk about everyday stuff, school, friends, hobbies, whatever a student's actually into that week, and vocabulary just comes up naturally along the way. I keep grammar explanations short and simple, nothing too technical, because overly detailed explanations always seemed to confuse the kids I worked with more than plain, simple examples did. Games and quick activities fill a lot of lesson time, since sitting still through a purely academic lesson never worked brilliantly with younger students in my experience. I encourage a lot of speaking, even messy, imperfect speaking, because confidence mattered more than perfect grammar with every kid I ever worked with as an au pair. Mistakes get a laugh, not a correction lecture, since nobody learns well feeling embarrassed about trying their best. I'm still building my own teaching experience, and I'm upfront about that, but I think the casual, genuinely friendly approach works really well for younger or nervous learners especially.
