About Jennifer

I have a Masters of Arts in Teaching with a major in math and a minor in psychology from the University of Michigan - Dearborn as well as a teaching certification in both subjects. I also completed 36 graduate credits in theoretical math. I've been tutoring students in math since 1993 in college and commercial math labs as well as privately. I published a book on how to be a math teacher, and I have had excellent feedback from students throughout my seventeen years of teaching at three community colleges. I ask for and value feedback so I can know how to improve, and I have enough experience to know what gives most students trouble with each subject. I am very patient, non-judgmental, and caring, and I have helped many, many students who were failing turn things around and succeed. I also understand that many students are afraid of math and/or do not like it, and I am sympathetic about that and try my best to help them see the value in it and why it's important to know. I like to relate what they're learning to their interests and the real world so the math is put into context and becomes meaningful.

About the lesson

Note: I am moving to Lansing at the end of June 2024. In the meantime, I can tutor online only. After that, I can meet students in their home or various locations.

I have taught mathematics for seventeen years at the high school and community college levels. I have also tutored students from kindergarten through college in all math subjects through Calculus II. My students say I am extremely organized, patient, caring, and explain topics very clearly. I have all kinds of tips and tricks to remember definitions, theorems, and formulas, and I break things down so that anyone can learn. It is my personal philosophy that anyone can do math, and I know how to help EVERY student succeed. Let's work together to accomplish your goals!
