About Danaan
My tutoring sessions are designed to strengthen the critical reading, analytical writing, and independent thinking skills required for success in college-level coursework. I'm here to refine the literacy skills you already have. You’re not behind. You just need a different approach — and we’re going to figure out what works for you. First, I’ll look at how you’re currently approaching reading and writing. Then, we’ll identify patterns.
After that, I’ll give you strategies you can apply independently. For this class you will receive a clear syllabus. You will know what to expect. For my grading criteria I will grade by category. For example, the first category of an essay I will grade is your thesis and argument. Second, I will grade your evidence and textual support and so on and so forth. I look forward to seeing your work.

My teaching methods are the following: Socratic seminars, close reading and textual analysis, the writing workshop model, and literary theory integration. An example of a typical lesson plan I would have would be a close reading and socratic seminar for the story The Great Gatsby. The lesson objective would be students analyzing how Fitzgerald uses symbolism and diction to critique the American Dream. My experience as an honors English student in 11th grade is what sets me apart as a tutor. To this day I still remember her teaching style and am able to tutor those in need. The lessons are for all students from 9th grade to college level.
