About Jack
I'm a former Head of Chemistry and Deputy Curriculum Lead with over a decade of teaching experience in UK secondary schools. I now work in national education policy at the Royal Society of Chemistry, where I help shape how science is taught and assessed across the country. Throughout my career, I’ve specialised in making science engaging, rigorous, and accessible—particularly for high-achieving GCSE and A-Level students. I understand what examiners are looking for, how to push students to the top grades, and how to explain even the most complex topics in ways that truly make sense. My approach is structured, supportive, and tailored to each student’s goals. Whether you’re aiming for a Grade 9, applying for medicine, or just trying to gain confidence in science, I’ll help you get there with clarity and direction.

I specialise in tutoring GCSE and A-Level science, with a particular focus on chemistry. My lessons are designed to build deep understanding, not just exam performance, by breaking down complex concepts into clear, logical steps. I use evidence-based techniques including scaffolding, retrieval practice, and metacognitive strategies to help students develop both confidence and independence. Lessons typically last 60 minutes and are tailored to the individual needs and goals of each student—whether they’re aiming for top grades, preparing for university study, or building foundational knowledge. I have over 10 years’ experience in education, including roles as a Head of Chemistry and Deputy Curriculum Lead. I now work in national science education policy, advising on curriculum and assessment reform. My students range from high-achieving GCSE pupils seeking extra stretch, to A-Level students preparing for medicine, STEM degrees, or Oxbridge entry. I also support students with learning differences, including those who may need content presented in different ways to suit their thinking style.
