About Meredith

I taught English language arts in a major school district in Arkansas for 11 years before becoming a tutor in 2019. I have a bachelor's degree in English (with a minor in creative writing) and a master's degree in Secondary Education, both from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. I have great reviews (considered a "5-star" tutor) from parents and students whom I have worked with, and I can provide references. I am honest, reliable, and try to be as flexible as my schedule allows. I excel at making connections with students (and their families), making their education as personal and enjoyable as possible. I aim to not only provide the necessary instruction to help students succeed but also to create lifelong learners who value education.

About the lesson

I've been tutoring online since 2019, mostly via a popular company. I'm a "5-star" tutor with them and have many satisfied clients who often refer me to friends and family. I often guide students through lessons step-by-step. For instance, if a student needs help learning how to write a good essay, I walk them through all of the writing stages: from pre-writing to publishing. I show them how to do research, take notes, create an outline, revise/edit their work, etc. We use Google Docs, so we can both be on the same document in real time. I also prefer to tutor with cameras on in order to better assess my students' engagement and comprehension. I've provided reading and writing help (of all kinds) to ages from pre-K to adult. My specialty age groups (for which I was certified in ELA) are 7th through 12th grades. Currently, I have been very busy preparing students for the reading, writing, and vocabulary sections of the SAT, ACT, ISEE, and SSAT, in particular. Naturally, I offer homework help as well. I'm reliable, flexible, and consistent. I find that trying to make meaningful connections with students and their families (rather than simply viewing them as business clients) helps build trust and confidence and motivates students to work harder. While teaching is what I do for a living, my purpose is to help students become successful, lifelong learners who both recognize the importance of education and learn to enjoy it.
