About Kay

My philosophy in teaching has always been “ever-learning student makes ever-living teacher.” I work hard to not only teach as best I can, but to learn from my students on how to be better.

Having been a professor for over 5 years, I’ve evolved in the ways that I teach, and have even learned different techniques to use with different students. Each student is different, and might need a different delivery of the lesson in order to make sense of the content. I need to learn what works for you as much as you need to learn from me.

I’ve worked with first-gen students, neurodivergent students, students who believed they sucked in ELA, and students who thought their diary entries put Shakespeare and Toni Morrison to shame. The one thing those students all had in common? They left my class with more than what they came with, and most left feeling more confident in their abilities (but if you want to leave my tutelage thinking you’re a better writer than Toni Morrison or my man Shakes, I probably am not the best person to help with that)!

About the lesson

Are you tired of hearing your teachers drone on about these stories and texts that look like ancient hieroglyphics to you? Are you confused by all the “thine’s” and “wherefore art thou’s”?

I get it: reading all these words from fossils who bit the dust eons ago is difficult, and figuring out what and how to write about them is even tougher. Let me help you make sense of it!

I am a former professor (though I still moonlight from time to time), so anything you could possibly encounter in your middle school, high school, undergraduate, and, heck, even graduate I have not only been through but probably taught it!

Not only have I taught these subjects, I’ve gotten national awards and publishing opportunities as well as booked speaking engagements because of my own original works. Let’s work together to kick your writing up a notch (or several)!
