About Lorena
I’m a former classroom teacher with experience working with students across a range of skill levels, with a focus on 5th–9th grade math.
During my time in the classroom, my students achieved strong measurable results. In the 2020–2021 school year, my Algebra 1 students earned an 84% EOC pass rate compared with Florida’s 49% state average. In 2021–2022, that pass rate increased to 95%, compared with the state average of 54%.
My classroom experience taught me how to recognize where students are struggling, adjust my approach, and make challenging material more approachable. I bring that same patience, adaptability, and high expectations to every student I work with.

My approach starts with figuring out where a student is getting stuck—not simply repeating the same explanation louder or assigning more practice. I break problems into smaller, manageable steps and adjust how I teach based on what makes the most sense to that particular student.
Lessons are built around the student’s current needs. We can work through difficult homework, strengthen concepts they may have missed, prepare for an upcoming test, or learn advanced material. As we work, I pay attention to where mistakes are happening so we can address the underlying concept rather than just correct the answer.
As a former middle school classroom teacher, I’ve worked with students across a wide range of ability levels and know that the same explanation will not work for everyone. My goal is to find the explanation that finally makes the problem click—and give students a method they can use when they encounter the next problem on their own.
