About John
I am a passionate flute tutor who loves helping students explore music with creativity and skill. My teaching combines mentorship, accountability, and critical thinking to foster steady growth. I focus on tone, phrasing, rhythm, and breath control while encouraging self-expression. I also teach music theory, sight-reading, and listening skills to develop well-rounded musicianship. Creativity is a key part of my lessons, including improvisation, composition, and musical storytelling. I guide students to set goals, practise consistently, and take ownership of their progress. Mistakes are treated as valuable learning opportunities. I adapt my teaching style to each student’s pace, level, and interests.
I act as a mentor, offering guidance, motivation, and constructive feedback. Lessons are structured yet engaging, combining technical work with creative exploration. I emphasise reflection, problem-solving, and critical thinking in every session. My goal is to build confidence, independence, and a love for music in all students. I also teach related subjects such as performance skills, theory, and rhythm. I create a positive and supportive environment where students feel comfortable experimenting. My ultimate aim is to help students become expressive, confident, and lifelong learners of music.

Each lesson is designed to help students think, feel, and play with confidence. I act as a mentor who guides students to explore their musical ideas freely. Accountability is an important part of my method—I help students set clear goals and stick to them. I teach discipline in a positive way, showing that small steps lead to big progress. Lessons include exercises to improve tone, rhythm, and breath control. I also focus on expression and emotional understanding in playing. Students learn not just to perform but to understand the music deeply. I use creative tasks such as improvisation and musical storytelling to keep lessons exciting.
I believe mistakes are opportunities to grow stronger and wiser. My teaching adapts to different learning styles and abilities. I encourage open discussions and questions in every class. I include music theory and rhythm training to build complete musicianship. My goal is to help students become confident, independent learners. Along with flute, I teach related subjects like theory and performance skills. Every class is about building joy, skill, and self-expression through music.
