About Lyliana
Hi! My name is Lyliana Celaya. I’m a fluent Spanish speaker, born in the U.S. and raised in Mexico, which has given me a deep understanding of both the language and the culture. I’m currently a university student majoring in Social Work at Arizona State University, where I’ve developed strong communication and leadership skills through my work and academic experiences. As a first-generation college student, I know the value of education and the power of support. I’m passionate about helping others succeed and believe that learning a new language should feel encouraging, not intimidating. My goal is to create a supportive and respectful environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes and asking questions. I have experience helping both English and Spanish speakers, and I’m especially patient with beginners. As a Spanish tutor, my approach is rooted in patience, cultural relevance, and adapting to each student's unique learning style. Being fluent in both English and Spanish—and having grown up in a bilingual environment—I understand the challenges and rewards of language acquisition from a real-world perspective.
My Teaching Method & Techniques:
I use a communicative approach, focusing on real-life conversations and practical vocabulary, while incorporating grammar and structure in a clear and relatable way. I emphasize listening and speaking early on, helping students build confidence through repetition, role-play, and visual aids. I also tailor my methods depending on the student's goals—whether it's academic success, conversational fluency, or professional communication.
Typical Lesson Plan:
Each lesson starts with a warm-up conversation in Spanish to activate prior knowledge. Then we review key vocabulary or grammar concepts, followed by interactive activities like reading, listening, writing, and speaking exercises. I always end with a quick review and a small assignment or tip to reinforce learning between sessions.
