About Charlie

Hi, my name is Charlie I am 18 years old and I have been playing bass for 8 years, and guitar for 6 years. I predominantly play indie and rock music, but I am also accustomed to metal and blues music as well as all of those in-between (I understand how the in-between genres can be important).

I have gigging experience, and so I want to bring the fun and excitable atmosphere of those gigs into the learning environment: the funner it is for you to learn, the funner it is for me to teach!

This means that whatever you want to learn, we will learn! whether it is a specific song, artist or even genre, we can focus on what you want to do and not want other people think you should do.

Quick story time: When I first learnt how to play bass and guitar, I learnt differently to those around me. Instead of learning scale after scale or grade piece after grade piece straightaway, I learned the songs I wanted to, the artists I wanted to, the techniques I wanted to. So, whilst those around me where made to learn dreary scales straight off the bat, I was rocking out to ACDC and the Foo Fighters as if I was up on stage with them. Because of this learning guitar became fun, enjoyable and something I wanted to do and not a chore like the other kids around me (there is a reason that I am the only one that still plays). Eventually, of course I had to do the scales and the grade pieces, but by that point I could already play, so the things that seemed boring came to me quicker and easier.

At the centre of my methodology is fun. The student must be having fun with what they do. If not learning an instrument can become frustrating, tiresome and unenjoyable. Thus, my approach is centred on what the student wants to do, what the student wants to learn: from specific songs to specific genres. This means that if, for example, I am teaching a complete beginner who likes a particular genre, I will teach them the chords, the progressions and the techniques that are associated with said genre which in tern makes it a more enjoyable learning experience.

Lessons can vary anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour.

I have experience teaching both guitar and bass from after school clubs during sixth form, where I both helped and nurtured the playing of those already able to find their way around a guitar, as well as those who did not know how to hold a guitar.

Lessons are accessible to all ages.
Lessons are accessible to those of beginner levels to intermediate levels.

I am a university student so lessons are more likely to be after normal working hours, however exceptions can be made.

Furthermore, I refuse to overcharge, because why should learning something that is fun and interesting be expensive?
