About Samuel
I am currently the president of my college's math team, I am the winner of first place in a competition designed to test my precalculus skills and I have also competed in many different competitions on behalf of my school both regionally here in Florida as well as nationally in Las Vegas.
I am an all A STEM student who is pursuing my education in Molecular Biology and Computer Science with plans on ultimately pursuing my PhD where I will study gene therapies.

The most common problem that students face when learning math in the classroom setting is two fold:
1. Because instructors are required to meet a certain teaching schedule, they are incentivized to blaze through concepts in an attempt to adhere to it. This often leads to students only being able algorithmically solve problems that are in the exact format of their classwork rather than building a deep understanding that will empower them to solve complex problems even when presented in unfamiliar formats.
2. Because a classroom is meant to facilitate the learning of many students simultaneously, students who have difficulty articulating misunderstandings on the spot can maintain gaps in their understanding that affect their future performance as they try to learn more material that relies on it.
My approach solves these problems by mirroring the way that Matheletes study math. I am familiar with it because I myself am a Mathlete who has won first place in compeitions as well as competed at a national level. I am currently in college pursuing my dream of working in the field of Molecular Biology.
Many people after hearing that my approach is to help students "study like a mathlete" think something along the lines of:
"Well if I or my child are already having difficulties, will I or they be capable of handling lessons catered to Mathletes?"
The answer is yes. As counterintuitive as it is, problems in learning math are often the result of not understanding the fundamentals tip to stern. That is why my approach is to start with relevant proofs and work from there to develop a sufficient understanding of the material.
That way you or your child begin to understand math, instead of just memorizing it.
Here is what a session typically looks like:
1. We begin by discussing novel problems as well as what types of mathematical tools we will need to solve it.
2. Then we cover relevant proofs, which I explain until the student demonstrates proper understanding.
3. We leverage the tools learned to begin solving challenging problems which require understanding of the material in order to solve.
Just imagine how far we could get by working together!
