About Elena
I have been a private tutor for the last 4 years, specialising in tutoring the 11+ and 13+. I count the following among the successes my clients have achieved over the last few years: - Common entrance prep (11+) leading to entrance to Latymer Upper School, Godolphin and Latymer, Harrodian, North London Collegiate School - Oxbridge and Interview Prep leading to entrance to Oxford University (LMH, for English, 6 months, 2018) (Lincoln, for English, 2020) - A predicted grade of 9 in GCSE Chemistry (raised from a 2) (6 months, October 2019 - March 2020) - 9 in GCSE Chemistry and 9 in GCSE Biology (all taught online) (3 months intensive - February 2019- April 2019) However, I think one of the most important facets of tutoring can't be measured through results: helping students gain confidence and change their own self-perceptions to ensure long-term academic and professional success. I am also interested in teaching in a more holistic sense, so please let me know if there is a specific educational plan you would like me to follow, or whether you would like an interdisciplinary approach where each lesson is adapted to whatever subject your child is struggling with that week. I have an Enhanced DBS check which I can provide on request. 'Elena is a spectacular tutor who transformed by English ability with her teaching. She was always quick to respond to queries and requests and gave profitable feedback on all the work covered. Thanks to her I was able to secure a place to study English at Oxford.'

I graduated from the University of Oxford with a First-Class Honours degree in English Language and Literature, where I was the recipient of the L.H. Martin Prize for academic excellence. I have been tutoring English privately for the last 4/5 years, tutoring for the 7+, 11+, 13+, GCSE, A-level, IB, and Oxbridge admissions prep. How do you help students prepare for 7+, 11+, and 13+ English assessments? The great majority of my students are preparing for these exams, which are competitive, rigorous and often require relatively intensive tutoring over an extended period of time. I tailor my tutoring to the particular problem area each of my students have, whether that's comprehension, SPAG, vocabulary, creative writing or verbal reasoning, but also ensure that students have the required baseline in all of those skills required for the schools they are trying to gain entrance to. I also conduct interview preparation sessions once assessments have been completed. Which schools have your students gained entry to? My students have gained entry to some of the most competitive secondary schools, including: Wycombe Abbey, St. Paul's Girls School, Kings College School, Westminster, Eton, Kingston Grammar School, and Latymer Upper. How do you generally teach GCSE English? For GCSE learners, I teach the fundamentals of literary analysis and essay writing, and I am familiar with set texts for all the major exam boards. Closer to mocks or exams, past papers and exam technique form the bedrock of my teaching for GCSE. How can you help me with my IB English? Teaching English for the IB is a passion of mine, and I am well-versed on all aspects of the examination, IOC, and HL Essay. Teaching will vary depending on which of the components you are struggling with most, but will generally comprise of commentary practice, developing oral presentation skills, and essay refinement. Can you help with creative writing? Yes, I do offer lessons exclusively to help develop creative writing skills. These lessons either complement the student's homework and school teaching, or I set a task for completion each week. For adult learners, lessons will be spent reviewing material written, whether that be for a book, article, work assignment or essay. Do you teach in-person or online? I exclusively teach online now, for a couple of reasons: - It allows me to see a greater number of students with increased flexibility for both student and tutor - There are increased software possibilities, which I find very useful in engaging students and monitoring progress Do you offer courses in English? Yes, I have created a variety of short courses for group lessons. For example, I have created a 10 hour poetry course adaptable to students between Year 5 and Year 9: In this course, students will be introduced to the fundamentals of poetic analysis through exploring some of the best known works of the English Literary canon. Each day of the course will be centred around one of the following themes: nature, family, history, beauty, and identity. Throughout the course, students will learn about poetic devices, debate how poems create their effects, learn how to think about metre and how to scan a line, reflect on the social and cultural dynamics that inform poems and inspire and influence poets, and apply these insights to their own creative writing. Poets covered will include: William Wordsworth, Robert Frost, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Lewis Carroll, Ted Hughes, Sujjata Bhatt, John Keats and Simon Armitage. The poems in this document will form the basis of our class work, but further poems may be brought in during class time for unseen practice. Please enquire for more details of other courses.

Perfect! We have been very pleased with Elena over the last year and my daughter has improved her grades in English from grade 4 to 7 in her latest mock exams. She feels a lot more confident in English Language and English Literature now. She always said that Elena was easy to get on with and Elena is always very focused on making the most of the tutoring time available during the lessons which should stand in good stead for her forthcoming GCSE examinations.
Perfect! Elena is an amazing tutor! My daughter enjoys her lessons and doesn't want to miss any of them. As she is more confident with her work, her recent English paper results show how much she benefits from Elena's lessons. We feel very lucky to have found Elena. A strong recommendation to everyone!

Perfect! From school performance report after first C-19 lockdown. We realised that our son needs help with his English tasks. We got in touch with Elena. Schools are again in lockdown.
My son does not miss any lesson with Elena.
Recently we read his English homework and we were impressed with his performance. We keep going with Elena.Perfect! Elena has been helping our son catch up with the Year 5 and Year 6 syllabus as he slipped behind due to Covid disruption. She is a superb tutor who puts a lot of care and attention into each individual student. My son's teachers have all remarked on how much he has improved over the last few months, which is all down to Elena's teaching.

Elena tutored me for my English Literature A-Level - with her help I moved from a B grade to an A* grade, and was able to get my offer for university. She is a great teacher and I would highly recommend her.
With Elena’s help, my daughter was able to secure a place at LMH College, Oxford, to study English. She is a dedicated, inspiring tutor that helped with all aspects of the process and helped m daughter feel confident going into interview. I highly recommend her.
Elena Casale has been tutoring our 16 year-old daughter at our home for 6 months.
We have been incredibly impressed by every aspect of her work - our daughter adores her and has been helped by her in several different subjects, including Chemistry and French.
Elena is very good at identifying exactly what our daughter is struggling with and explaining it to her methodically so she can understand it completely. She took her from a Grade 2 to a Grade 9 in Chemistry because Elena understands how our daughter's particular revision method works and also makes sure, every time, that she remembers everything she has been taught in that session. Our daughter says that Elena is also very patient and understanding when she is confused.
We highly recommend her.Elena has been teaching my child for 11+ English and I must say that she is a very professional, patient and very good at keeping you engaged with the lessons and learning. She tailors each tutorial to suit my child's learning style, and he really liked it. There is definitely a noticeable improvement in English.
I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for an excellent English tutor.View more recommendations
