About Austin
Hello! My name is Austin, and I am a dedicated mathematics trainee teacher ( I will obtain my QTS in June) with a first-class degree in Mathematics. My passion for the subject and commitment to helping others understand and appreciate it drives my approach to tutoring.
With a solid academic foundation, I have developed a teaching style that is both engaging and effective. I tailor my lessons to each student's unique learning style, ensuring that concepts are understood thoroughly and retained long-term.
I utilize proven teaching methodologies, including the Ebbinghaus forgetting curve, to optimise learning and memory retention. By incorporating regular assessments, interactive problem-solving, and real-life applications, I strive to make mathematics both enjoyable and practical.
Whether you are struggling with basic concepts or preparing for exams, my goal is to help you achieve your academic objectives with confidence and ease. I am here to support you every step of the way, fostering a positive and productive learning environment.
I am offering online tutoring until August then both online and in-person tutoring after this.

My lessons are designed based on the Ebbinghaus forgetting curve, incorporating spaced repetition and regular reviews to ensure long-term retention of concepts. I believe that getting the basics mastered will greatly improve a student's grade. My target areas are foundation and low-achieving higher students and I would be using this schedule.
My first lesson would be in the structure below:
1. Introduction (10 minutes)
Greetings and starters:
Briefly greet the student and do some level 3-5 skills questions (depending on student ability) to help them warm up their brains and practice key skills.
2. Concept Explanation (5 minutes)
Introduce the topic:
Define the concept.
Explain/ show any formula needed for this topic.
3. Guided Practice (15 minutes)
Step-by-Step Problem Solving:
Solve several examples together, starting with simple examples and gradually increasing difficulty.
Encourage the student to explain their thought process as they solve each problem.
4. Independent Practice (15 minutes)
Student Practice:
Provide a set of problems for the student to solve independently.
Monitor progress and offer hints or guidance as needed.
5. Review and Feedback (10 minutes)
Review Solutions:
Go over the solutions to the independent practice problems.
Address any mistakes or misconceptions.
Provide positive feedback and highlight areas for improvement.
6. Summary and Homework (5 minutes)
Summarise Key Points:
Recap the main concepts covered in the lesson.
Answer any final questions the student may have.
Assign Homework:
Assign a few additional problems for homework to reinforce the day's learning.
