About George

I have extensive knowledge of teaching, which is second nature to me. I taught English in Cambodia, and I am a qualified swimming teacher too. Teaching in different contexts, such as in a foreign country, or teaching a sport is all the same. In the sense, that teaching is a transferable skill, regardless of the context. Therefore, I do have valuable experience of teaching. Next year, I am beginning the final stages of gaining fully qualified teacher status. I have extensive knowledge of philosophy and the wider humanity subjects, and I am so passionate about education. I am politically active too, I helped a local branch of a major political party in Cheltenham in the run-up to the 2019 General Election. Therefore, I can offer help in politics, but also political topics within other GCSE and A-Level subjects. I am a passionate writer, and have academically covered many humanity subjects such as: religion, theology, philosophy, ethics, politics, sociology, criminology and history. I have my own personal website where you can read up on subjects that I have covered, and see if I am the right tutor for you! If interested, please feel free to drop me a message, and I can send you the webpage. In my spare time, I like to watch football, and I am also highly passionate about nature and wildlife. Therefore, I do have a broad range of interests, both academically and socially speaking!

I offer academic tuition in all humanity subjects. Whether the goal is to achieve a GCSE grade high enough to study the subject at A-Level, or to get a certain grade to get into your first choice university, I will get you there. I fundamentally believe that a one-size-fits-all approach to teaching is not the most effective way to unleash a student's potential. Therefore, my tutoring style depends on the pupil I am tutoring. When I first meet the pupil, I will ask numerous questions to determine what areas they need guidance with, and how they learn best. This will help me maximise the pupil's potential. What I do love doing however, is contextualising any topic, no matter how historical the topic is. I will ensure that I give a contemporary example to any topic, which really helps a pupil to understand the topic in which they're studying. What I am also aware of, is that tutoring is a personal experience, in the sense that it is all about the pupil. Therefore, in many ways, I like to let the pupil take the reins, in the sense of what topic to go over, and in a way that is beneficial to them. Furthermore, I will build up a complete profile of the pupil, getting details such as exam specifications, boards etc, to make sure that the tutoring I give is entirely relevant to the pupil's exams / coursework. I fully understand how the ongoing covid-19 pandemic has affected students, it affected me with my degree too. However, I really can give each pupil that little boost and help them catch up, plugging in those little gaps by extensively covering topics that may have not been fully covered due to the disruption to which covid-19 has had on education. Rest assured, whilst I am more than happy to teach face-to-face, I will ensure social distancing during our tutoring sessions. If you have any queries in relation to tutoring during covid-19 or anything else, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Details

Online learning has a reduced rate of £20 an hour, compared to £25 for face-to-face learning. I do offer blocks of 5 and 10 hours for both online and face-to-face tutoring, which results in a 10% deduction of total fee. Whilst studying for my own A-Levels, I had a biology tutor throughout year 13 with a classmate. This was really enjoyable, learning with a fellow pupil, and I am more than happy to teach a pair of students. I offer a 25% reduction for each pupil in this case. I am more than happy to set work for pupils to do in their own time, whether it is essay practice or exam question preparation. I am also more than happy to mark work as well outside of the tutoring sessions, but will charge a nominal £5 fee each time. Cancellation within 48 hours, will result in a 50% charge of the tuition fee, anything within 24 hours will result in full tuition fee charge, as given the time frame, it would be unlikely for me to have another tutee booked in. I also have a full DBS certificate.
