About Pascale

I am Pascale and I love English - but I know that's not the case for everyone! I want to help you access this subject so it is not so daunting - maybe you are preparing for your GCSE exams and can't quite get to grips with Shakespeare, maybe English is a new language for you and you want some support accessing your schoolwork, or maybe you enjoy English and want to be stretched to hit those top grades! I can help with all of this and more, always responding to you and your individual needs.

About the lesson

I would hope to bring an aspirational atmosphere to lessons by supporting students to access their studies and prepare for their exams with kindness, enthusiasm and intellectual curiosity. I have a First Class English Literature degree from the University of Manchester, and am currently studying for an MA in Journalism at City St George's University. Having worked full-time in a secondary school as a Learning Support Assistant in English, I have experience working one-to-one with SEN, EAL students aged 11-16 in English, as well as with highly able students who wanted a boost. I am, therefore, very familiar with the current GCSE syllabus and grading system. Tutoring a child at GCSE level, my methodology would be personalised to the child's needs but might involve tackling past papers together, modelling answers, workshopping exam responses and generally providing a framework for understanding through which the student feels confident accessing the subject in school or exam conditions. I would do all of this with consistent feedback and careful monitoring of progress. I also have experience with children of primary school age, having worked as a live-in nanny and helped teach children phonics, reading, spelling and writing. Tutoring a child in the primary school age range, I would create fun and engaging ways for them to engage with the subject, supporting their access to their learning in school and helping to boost their understanding and attainment. Lessons would typically be an hour, but I am happy to be flexible and negotiate this with parents!
