About Elizabeth

I am an MA Law (PGDL) graduate with Distinction and a First-Class Criminology graduate, with two years' tutoring experience supporting students at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

I specialise in helping university students improve their academic writing, essay structure, critical analysis and assessment technique. Whether you are struggling to understand an assignment question, unsure how to structure an argument, receiving feedback that your work is too descriptive, or simply want to push your grades higher, sessions are tailored to the areas where you need the most support.

My own academic background includes a First-Class BSc (Hons) in Criminology, an 80% undergraduate dissertation, the Best Dissertation 2025 Award and an MA Law (PGDL) with Distinction. These experiences have given me a strong understanding of what distinguishes a good piece of university work from one that demonstrates genuinely high-level analysis.

I have supported 20+ students through Superprof alongside my wider tutoring work, working with students across different academic levels, learning styles and levels of confidence.

As a dyslexic graduate, I also understand first-hand that organising ideas, processing large amounts of information and translating what you know into a clear academic argument can be challenging. I have developed practical strategies throughout my own studies that helped me achieve high academic results, and this informs my clear, structured and patient approach to tutoring.

My aim is not to write assessed work for students, but to help you understand how to improve your own work independently and develop academic skills that you can apply across future assessments.

Qualifications & Experience:
* MA Law (PGDL) — Distinction
* BSc (Hons) Criminology — First-Class Honours
* Undergraduate dissertation — 80%
* Best Dissertation 2025 Award
* Two years' tutoring experience
* 20+ students supported through Superprof
* DBS checked

My academic support sessions are designed around your actual university assessments and the skills you need to improve.
Before a session, you can send me your assessment question, marking criteria, lecturer feedback and, where appropriate, your own draft or plan. I will use these to identify the areas we should prioritise during the lesson.

Sessions can focus on:
- Understanding essay and coursework questions
- Breaking down marking criteria
- Planning a clear and focused answer
- Developing a strong central argument
- Structuring essays effectively
- Improving paragraph structure
- Moving from description to critical analysis
- Integrating academic sources into your argument
- Comparing and evaluating different perspectives
- Improving clarity and academic style
- Strengthening introductions and conclusions
- Responding to lecturer or marker feedback
- Identifying why marks may have been lost in previous assessments
- Referencing and academic conventions
- Planning presentations and other university assessments

If you already have a draft, we can work through sections together to identify where the argument, structure or analysis could be strengthened. Rather than simply correcting the work for you, I will explain why something could be improved and help you develop the skills to recognise these issues independently.

Sessions can also be used proactively. You do not need to be struggling academically to benefit from tutoring — I also work with students who are already achieving good grades but want to develop the stronger analysis, precision and structure required for higher marks.

My main areas of academic experience are criminology, sociology, psychology, law and related social sciences, although the academic skills covered in these sessions can be applicable across a wider range of university subjects.

All support is developmental and educational. I will not write or rewrite assessed work on a student's behalf.

Who This Is For

This support may be particularly useful if you:
- Know your subject but struggle to translate your knowledge into strong essays
- Regularly receive feedback that your work is too descriptive
- Find it difficult to structure or organise your arguments
- Are unsure what university marking criteria actually require
- Want to improve from a 2:2 to a 2:1, or from a 2:1 towards First-Class/Distinction-level work
- Want detailed guidance on an upcoming essay or coursework assessment
- Want to become a more confident and independent academic writer

For students specifically undertaking a dissertation or major independent research project, I also offer separate specialist dissertation support covering the research process in greater depth.
