About Rachael

First Class English Literature and Modern Languages and Cultures graduate from the University of Sheffield - I have studied a range of literature, from literary periods such as Romanticism and the Gothic to critical fields such as Feminism, Post-colonialism and Ecocriticism. As an English Literature and Modern Languages graduate, I have an in-depth understanding of how language works, a strong command of grammar and good literacy skills. I recently taught English at a school in Germany on my year abroad, an experience which further developed and enhanced my teaching skills. I am 22 years old and currently based in Sheffield, however I offer lessons online too. As I recently underwent A-Levels and GCSEs myself, I have a good understanding of both exam formats, as well as the pressure placed on students to succeed. My priority will be to support students in both their learning and enjoyment of the subject. I'm an approachable and friendly person and am always available for you to contact outside of lesson time, no matter whether your questions are big or small.

About the lesson

Enjoyment is a vital component to learning; if you enjoy something, you will be more motivated to improve. I therefore strive to keep my lessons as fun and engaging as possible. Everyone learns differently. I now have over five years of tutoring experience and have taught a range of ages and levels. We can experiment with different learning styles in our first few lessons, finding out what format and structure works best for you as an individual. You can give me feedback after lessons too, and I will tailor the following lesson to your needs. English, with its complex language and structure, is a challenging subject. But if you break any subject area down, whether it's a novel into themes, a long sentence into its grammatical components, or an essay into sections, then things become simpler. I have a wide range of resources available to help students engage with the subject. I teach the following areas: - English Literature (from the period 1500 - contemporary) - Critical thinking - Essay Writing - Creative Writing - English Language - Speech writing/ Public Speaking - Reading comprehension
