About Laura
Hi, I'm Laura, I'm 22 and I recently graduated from Bristol University where I studied English. I've been passionate about literature my whole life and am keen to pass on my knowledge to new students! Whilst at University, I studied a wide range of genres, eras and authors, so I'm able to provide in depth knowledge across the board. I love English because it's not only about reading books, but about telling and learning stories of people across history and society. As a subject it ties together lots of elements of the humanities, which is why I think it is important to learn about the social and historical context of what you are reading - this is something I highlight in my tutoring!
As a tutor, I can help you with A-Level and GCSE studies in the fields of English Literature, History and Politics. I can also help with preparing for University level study, whether that be the step up in essay writing, acing your entrance essay, or helping you to understand referencing.

My tutoring style is flexible as I know everyone learns differently. Our first session will identify the areas that the student wants to improve on and we can then work out a plan of action from there. Sessions will also focus on close reading of text, understanding linguistic techniques, identifying key themes and genres and learning the social / historical context of texts. We can also go through past papers, essay planning and how to write a high quality paragraph of analysis. I encourage discussion of ideas, as this is really important in forming your own opinions for essay arguments as well as University level learning!
I will set some fun and interesting homework after each session, for example creating a biography of an author, watching a good adaptation of a play or reading a relevant text that isn't on the syllabus.
