About John

Hi, I'm John. I'm currently studying for an MSc in Economics at the University of Edinburgh, having recently graduated with First-Class Honors in International Economics from Maynooth University.

I've studied economics across a wide range of areas, including microeconomics, macroeconomics, international economics, public economics, labor economics and development economics. I also spent a year studying at the Universitat de Barcelona as part of my undergraduate degree.

Having studied economics from introductory level (receiving a H1 in LC) right through to postgraduate level, I know that a lot of topics can seem much more complicated than they actually are. My approach is to break them down into simple steps and explain the intuition behind them before moving on to exam questions.

I'm friendly and easy-going, so I want students to feel completely comfortable saying when something doesn't make sense or asking me to explain it again in a different way.

For Leaving Cert students, my focus is on understanding the course, knowing what the question is actually asking and being able to produce a clear answer that picks up marks.

About the lesson

My lessons are aimed mainly at 5th and 6th year Leaving Cert Economics students, whether you're aiming for a H1 or just want to feel more confident with the subject.

I try to keep economics as straightforward as possible. Rather than just learning definitions off by heart, we'll make sure you actually understand what is happening and then learn how to turn that understanding into marks in an exam.

Lessons can be based around whatever you need most. We can work through difficult topics from the course, go through past exam questions step by step, improve how you structure longer answers, practise diagrams and calculations, or revise the course in preparation for mocks and the Leaving Cert.

I can also provide guidance with the Economics Research Study (which I received top marks in), including understanding the topic, economic theory, research, data and how to structure your work effectively.

A typical lesson is one hour and will be adapted to the individual student. If there's a particular chapter or question you're struggling with, just send it to me beforehand and we can focus the lesson around it.

I also offer grinds for university students who need help with microeconomics or macroeconomics modules.
