About Maia

Hi, I’m Maia, a film school graduate with a passion for storytelling, cinematography, and the art of analysis. My background in film has allowed me to explore how stories are crafted through visual language, character development, themes, symbolism, and the creative choices behind a director’s vision.

Alongside my love for film, I developed a strong passion for English Literature during my A Levels, where studying poetry, plays, and modern texts became one of my greatest interests. I enjoy exploring the deeper meanings within texts, analysing a writer’s intentions, and helping students develop their own interpretations with confidence.

My approach to tutoring combines my experience in both literature and film analysis, encouraging students to look closely at how stories are constructed, whether through language on the page or imagery on screen. I aim to make lessons engaging, thoughtful, and accessible, helping students strengthen their analytical skills, improve their written responses, and develop a genuine appreciation for storytelling.

Whether you’re studying English Literature, preparing for exams, or interested in developing your film analysis skills, I’m here to provide a supportive and creative learning environment tailored to your goals.

I take a highly supportive, student-centred approach to tutoring, tailoring every lesson to the individual learner’s needs, confidence level, and academic goals. My focus is not only on improving grades, but on building long-term skills in reading, writing, and critical thinking that students can carry forward into further education and beyond.

I have particular experience working with students who have additional learning needs, including dyslexia and other learning differences. I adapt my teaching style to ensure content is accessible, breaking tasks into manageable steps, using clear structure, and reinforcing learning through repetition, visual support, and exam-focused strategies. My aim is always to create a calm, encouraging environment where students feel understood, supported, and able to succeed.

For GCSE English Literature and English Language, I focus on:

* Building confidence in essay writing and structuring clear, high-level arguments
* Strengthening reading comprehension and analytical skills
* Expanding vocabulary, grammar, and written expression
* Practising exam-style questions with clear, step-by-step guidance
* Teaching students how to interpret texts effectively and support ideas with strong evidence

For students preparing for university entry, I offer tailored support with academic writing, personal statements, interview preparation, and study skills. My goal is to help students feel confident and well-prepared for the transition into higher education.

I also work with primary school students and SATs preparation, focusing on reading, writing, spelling, comprehension, and core English skills. Lessons are engaging, structured, and confidence-building, helping younger learners develop strong foundations and achieve their best possible results.

A typical lesson lasts 60 minutes, although longer sessions can be arranged where needed. Each lesson is carefully structured, usually including a review of previous learning, focused teaching of a key skill, guided practice, and clear, personalised feedback with actionable next steps.

I hold a First-Class Bachelor of Arts degree from MetFilm School, where I developed strong skills in communication, analysis, research, and written expression. Alongside my academic background, I have experience supporting GCSE students, primary learners, SATs preparation, and university applicants, including those with additional learning needs.

My lessons are suitable for:

* Primary school pupils (including SATs preparation and Key Stage 1 & 2 support)
* GCSE English Literature and English Language students
* Students preparing for college or university applications
* Learners who need additional support with reading, writing, analysis, exam confidence, or learning differences such as dyslexia

I am committed to helping every student reach their potential by providing structured, patient, and engaging support that builds both confidence and academic success. learner’s needs, confidence level, and academic goals.
