About Tia

Hi! Given that I am in my final year of completing a BA Hons in English Literature at Queen Mary, University of London, I have been trained to produce sophisticated pieces of work and identify what constitutes towards writing high-quality essays. Receiving stellar grades of 1sts and high 2:1's in my university assignments, I am trusted by many to proof-read undergraduate essays, as well as UCAS undergraduate personal statements. I have also been informally guiding A-Level English Literature students through the intellectual gap between GCSE and A-Level for a year and have run many successful study groups. Whilst undertaking my A-Levels I was appointed as the English Literature and Spanish representative for my classes, whereby my fellow peers could ask me for help at any time with any content they did not understand.

I tailor my lessons to the student's academic level and interests, resulting in my academic guidance being proven to have enhanced my students' learning experience and understanding of English Literature and essay writing. Not only have my previous tutoring sessions been informative and useful; I pride myself on maintaining a creative, energetic, friendly atmosphere for the student in order to motivate and ensure they fulfil their academic potential.

About the lesson

My lessons are specifically catered towards a student's area(s) of weakness they would like to improve on. For example, a lesson on essay writing may specifically focus on how to form a literary analysis of a text from a novel or article, where I will slowly and thoroughly go through a passage with a student and guide them through how to develop a critical eye for any text they come across; honing in specifically on any particular difficulties in forming an analysis that a student may struggle with, such as identifying the relevance of an author's linguistic choices. Students are also welcome to bring any essay tasks or feedback they have received from school to go through and understand together, where I will be happy to assist in teaching them how to write up successful essay plans, how to improve their future essays and proofread.

I also provide the same format of lessons for students who want to learn and understand more about particular genres of literature or novels. I specialise in American, as well as English Literature, having studied literature abroad in the US in 2017; however, I am well read and atuned to many other genres of literature. Again, the structure of a lesson is dependant on the students' need. For example, if a student wanted to focus specifically on The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, I would divide up the various literary components making up the novel's plotline and help the student identify its themes, analyse the relevance of the context in which the author is writing in and uncover its impact on the novel.

As I will be taking a lot of time to prepare material for the tutoring sessions and/or proof-reading and providing feedback on pieces of work sent to me, where possible please give me at least a week's notice if you intend to cancel a session!
