About Gavin

I am a Mathematics tutor with 10 years of experience and a PhD in Mathematics. I have taught over 150 students from secondary school through to advanced undergraduate and postgraduate mathematics. My lessons cover all areas of pure and applied mathematics with equal depth and rigor. I am passionate about mathematical precision and helping students develop genuine analytical thinking skills. My approach is demanding but always patient and supportive. I have helped students achieve excellent results at A-Level and university level. About the lesson

My Maths lessons are rigorous, conceptually clear, and always focused on developing genuine mathematical understanding rather than surface-level procedure recall in every session. Every session begins with a careful targeted review of previous concepts and problems to ensure solid foundations before introducing new material. New mathematical topics are presented with careful logical progression from first principles using visual representations, algebraic reasoning, and applied examples to find the explanatory approach that best suits each individual student. Calculus topics develop differentiation and integration with full conceptual grounding including limits and first principles before progressing to all standard techniques and their applications in optimisation, kinematics, and area calculations. Algebra sessions build robust equation solving, function theory, polynomial manipulation, partial fractions, and the deep algebraic reasoning required for all advanced mathematical work. Pure mathematics topics including proof by induction, sequences and series, complex numbers, and abstract algebra are treated with full mathematical rigour alongside clear intuitive motivation. Statistics and probability are taught with genuine conceptual understanding rather than formula memorisation. Past examination questions are integrated throughout every lesson. Detailed notes and a carefully graduated problem set are provided after every session. My commitment is for every student to develop genuine mathematical maturity and approach any examination with real confidence.
