About Isaac

Unlock the past and master the art of historical argument. As an experienced History tutor, I support students from GCSE through to Undergraduate level in navigating complex narratives and rigorous academic requirements.

My sessions focus on more than just dates; we dive deep into source evaluation, historiography, and the development of sophisticated, high-mark essay structures. Whether you are struggling with GCSE content or refining a University-level dissertation, I provide the critical tools and feedback necessary to excel in your examinations and research.

About the lesson

My approach to teaching centres the student. I see each client I work with as an individual and try to understand how they work and learn best. Then I tailor my approach to them.

My lessons typically last for one hour, but I am open to doing slightly longer or shorter sessions.

I have worked as a tutor for several years with a range of students, from school year 3 right up to year 12.
I have also worked as a TA and LSA in primary schools, where I gained experience teaching students with SEN.
I have experience as a presenter for Elevate Education, which has given me expertise in study skills, and more recently have worked for the Brilliant Club during which I have taught essay writing to secondary school students.

My lessons in history are for students in school years 7-13 and university undergraduates.

Isaac was my professor when I did study abroad in London. I loved his style of teaching which made it super digestible to students very new to the topics he taught. It was very engaging and creative as well! He was one of those professors that gave you as much support as you needed to succeed. Whether that was through office hours, helping with presentations or assignments or just sitting and talking about the topics that we had gone over in class. 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?
I developed an interest in history as a young boy visiting Castles and other historic sites around the British countryside. I began private tutoring after having worked as a teaching assistant in a primary school where I realised I had a knack for explaining complicated ideas in a simple way.
2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).
I teach History at all levels and also primary level English and Maths. I love to discuss any aspect of history as it is my passion but what is most rewarding is sharing information that is new to the student and watching them digest it.
3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?
I had an excellent teacher in secondary school called Mr Lindsley, who inspired me in my pursuit of history. His knowledge of Russian history was truly impressive, and he was able to impart to me the fundamentals of historical analysis and good essay writing.
4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?
To be a good tutor you must be patient, a good listener and also be able to make subjects which can feel boring, fun and engaging for students.
5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.
I was never a top student at school and did not consider myself to be that intelligent. As I have grown older and progressed through higher education I realised that working hard is as, if not more, important than being smart. It is the key to achieving your educational goals!
6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?
Historical education still favours the perspective of certain groups and underrepresents others.
7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?
I am passionate about all history but especially enjoy historical narratives which are exciting. I am also a student of martial arts and love training and watching combat sports.
8) What makes you a Superprof?
I am a superprof because of my extensive experience, my considerable knowledge and my ability to connect with my students.
