About Ellis
Hi! My name is Ellis. I've been supporting students academically for ten years, in a number of different contexts and across different levels. What remains the same, however, is my commitment to building trust and rapport with my students to ensure their academic needs are being met holistically. As a university student, I worked with the StFX Writing Centre as a peer tutor, and continued as a writing tutor for students long after a graduated, alongside my work as a coordinator for a youth outreach program which included academic support for youth grades 3-12. I currently work as an outreach worker in a high school setting, and while my support for students is not strictly academic, I end up supporting students with school skills such as organization, test prep and study skills, and goal setting. I believe everyone deserves the support they need to succeed, and hope to provide affordable and approachable tutoring as part of that support.

I am an experienced tutor and writing coach who has worked in schools, after school programs, ESL programs, and university writing centres. My approach is very client centred - we start with what you know and what your goals are, and then design a lesson plan to help you achieve those goals.
For example, if a university student wants to build essay writing skills, we would start with understanding the prompt, build an outline together, and then come together at each draft to discuss improvements and direction. Alternately, if a grade 5 student wanted to improve reading skills, we would play word games, read together, and interpret storylines with basic analytic skills.
I offer a free 20 minute consultation to help see if we are a good fit and to give me a sense of what your situation and goals are, so I can build a curriculum that suits you best.
