My teaching style is very mindfulness based. I tend not to get into yogic philosophy as much, and spend my energy making sure you are safe and bringing attention back to the breath and experience of being in your body in the present moment.

Why?

Yoga has tremendous benefits for calming anxiety and soothing symptoms of PTSD and stress. A lot of that has to do with connecting movement to breath. That's where most of my focus goes.

I love keeping things lighthearted and playful, but with a lot of room for relaxation and meditation. I typically begin each session with a grounding exercise and a breathing practice.

Of course we can tailor anything to your specific needs! Let's talk.

I've been teaching for years (my background is in music, and I am also a voice teacher), so the desire to teach yoga developed naturally as my own practice developed. Teacher training felt like a next step, and I'm so glad I took it. Teaching brings me great joy -- seeing people develop kindness toward themselves, confidence and peace in their bodies and souls is my greatest reward.

About the lesson

We will start by discussing your wants and needs for developing your practice, and based on what I learn about you and your goals, I will craft our sessions.

You might choose for our sessions to heat-building and sweaty, with a super relaxing rest at the end, or we could focus nurturing, with a focus on rejuvination. Or, we could do yin-style yoga, targeting your deep connective tissues to work on mobility issues. The sky is the limit - it is truly dependant on what you need!

I like to incorporate mindfulness, breathing and meditation into all sessons, with the goal of empowering you to use those tools on your own throughout the week.

I've worked with kids, all the way to people in their late sixties. I specialize in yoga for mental illness and trauma recovery, which means if you are wanting to work on relaxation or anxiety reduction, I would probably be an ideal teacher for you.
