Find out more about Royden

  • Can you tell us about your first experience using a computer?

The first experience I ever had with a computer was playing FIFA 2000 on my Dad's office computer which was a windows 98 machine! Looking back at it I feel so grown up but it's also overwhelming how computers have evolved over the years and every day we see new advancements in the field of computers and communication networks.
  • What is the technological evolution that has marked you most and what will be, in your eyes, a turning point in this field?

I think there are so many major changes that have taken place in the field of computer networks brought about by vendors like CISCO, Juniper, etc. but in my opinion network programmability and software-defined networking are going to be huge. There are so many devices now that can communicate over a network hence manual managing is tedious and next to impossible. By using software-defined networking and custom automation scripts these devices can be programmed with one click.
  • Explain your expertise, your interest in it and, more broadly, its importance in the computer world.

My expertise mainly revolves around networking with automation being something I strongly believe in. As per my previous answer, I have already highlighted how important network programming is and it is a field every computer network professional must delve into.
  • Do so-called 'visionaries', such as Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg inspire you or do you have other role models?

Yes, absolutely they do! It is so important to learn from these big players who brought about a technological revolution with their products and how every year they constantly improve and bring the best bits of technology to us. For me personally, Jeff Bezos has to be my absolute role model, just to see where he started his journey from and how his graph has risen over the years is extraordinary and I hope I can emulate qualities that he possesses.
  • What would you say to an uncomfortable person in front of a screen who says that "IT is too complicated"?

Well, IT is like a two-edged sword. Those who know it will find it easy and it's understandably the opposite for someone who is not so tech-savvy. All I would say is, spend some time with it and let it grow over you. Over a period as you get warmer to using it, you will realize that it is not that complicated after all and can indeed be very easy and help you perform daily tasks quite efficiently.
  • What are your other passions, related or non-related to computers?

I like watching and playing football. After work, you can find me either watching a good show/movie or just on the playground keeping myself fit. After all work-life balance is something we should all strive for.
