About Amanda

I teach a wide variety of music, from Western classical music to Irish fiddling, Argentine tango, klezmer, and children's songs. I have developed my own teaching method that includes learning music by rote, by ear, and from music as well as understanding harmony and improvisation.

I love the process of figuring out what works for each student and seeing them grow as players and musicians.

I've been playing violin for almost all of my life. As a music student in college, I got the opportunity to work with private students through my school's community music program and fell in love with teaching.

I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Violin Performance from Baldwin-Wallace College, a Master’s Degree in Violin Performance from the University of Colorado Boulder, and an Artist Diploma in Chamber Music Studies from the University of Illinois.

I also took courses in music education in college and studied the Suzuki method with William Starr, and I'm one of the founders and chamber music teachers at the Champaign-Urbana Chamber Music Workshop.

About the lesson

I have worked with students as young as 3 up to those in their 70s. My studio currently has students ages 7 and up, with around a third under age 12, a third in middle and high school, and a third adults.

$50/h

Details

I charge $50 per hour for lessons. Students 8 and up take 30, 45, or 60 minute weekly lessons, and students under 8 can opt for one or two 15 or 30 minute lessons per week.
