About Julie
I received my Bachelors, Masters, and Graduate Performance Diplomas in Violin Performance from The Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University.
Prior to joining the first violin section of the Pacific Symphony, I regularly performed with the National Symphony, Washington National Opera, Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra as a guest musician.
As a former adjunct faculty member at Howard Community College, I also have 10+ years of teaching privately, adjudicating for festivals/competitions, and coaching orchestra sectionals and chamber music groups. I have worked with students of different levels and ages; students preparing for conservatory auditions, competitions, and youth orchestras.
Working with students and hope to be a positive influence in their lives. Enjoy seeing them getting better and getting closer to achieving their goals.
I majored in Violin Performance and have 10+ years of teaching.

A typical first lesson will start of by hearing them play a little, if possible. Then I like to hear about the goals of their learning violin as well as any expectations they have from me. And from there I’ll outline what I think is necessary for them to achieve that goal. Whether it being focusing on technical or musical aspects, and choosing what books/pieces to work on. And we go from there!
Worked with diverse level of students preparing for music conservatory auditions to students needing help with their school orchestra music.

She influenced me to actually practice my instrument and persuaded me the true outcomes of practicing. She taught me how to properly practice and how to effectively practice as an individual. She also made it fun by giving me variety of pieces to practice and play so that I could enjoy playing. She taught me techniques that helped improve and enhance my skills to above my expectation.
Ms. Julie was one of a very few who brought me to a new understanding of music. During lessons, she points out every detail to be fixed and worked on, and does not move on until I successfully execute the details. I really liked this procedure because many teachers instruct students to just remember the details or try it and then move on; however, Ms. Julie provides even more intricate feedback regarding the details, and does not move on until I fully understand how to play the details successfully. Not only that, but her honesty was one of the most amazing features that I loved. Again, many teachers tend to compliment their students and not state direct criticism, but Ms. Julie’s direct honesty made me the better musician as I am today. Had I only received positive feedback, I would have become a musician who was not aware of her weaknesses. Lastly, I loved how Ms. Julie is so open in communication, for she livens the mood with funny jokes and those always made me feel more reassured and comfortable. Overall, her attentiveness, patience, honesty, and willingness to genuinely help me enabled me to realize the importance of music, further enhancing my growth as a musician.
When I didn’t something good she would give me detailed critique to make me improve.
