About Thibault

I’m a university student studying History and Politics, and I’ve been tutoring History for the last three years, specialising heavily in the most common exam modules, including Weimar Germany, Tsarist & Soviet Russia, Apartheid South Africa, Civil Rights America, Elizabethan England, the Cold War (Vietnam & Korea), and the History of Medicine.

My own way of working and structuring arguments helped me get straight A*s at GCSE and A-Level, and I wanted to tutor to show other students that the top marks in History are completely achievable when you actually understand how the exam works. It’s a method that works! On average, the students I’ve taught end up getting three grades higher than they were predicted.

I really enjoy tutoring because there's nothing better than seeing a complex historical debate finally click for someone. I’m energetic, relaxed, and very easy to get along with, which I think is massive for building up a student's confidence. History essays and source analyses can feel overwhelming, so lessons shouldn't feel like an interrogation. They need to be a space where you feel comfortable testing out arguments, making mistakes, and asking questions.

About the lesson

Every session starts with a sharp focus tied directly to the exam. You will walk away from every single lesson having mastered a specific historical analysis strategy, essay structure, or source evaluation technique. Whether we are untangling source utility for Weimar Germany and Medicine, or mastering the essay structures for Elizabethan England, South Africa, or 20th Century America, we stick strictly to the specification and target exactly what the examiners are looking for.

That being said, studying history shouldn't mean boring, passive memorisation of endless dates and timelines. The best learning happens when you actually engage with the narrative, whether that's the geopolitics of Vietnam and Korea or the complexities of Irish history. Because of that, I tailor the lessons entirely around how you think and learn, helping you connect the historical context to the bigger picture. When you actually understand the core logic behind the events, building a sophisticated, analytical essay becomes second nature, and stays with you under exam pressure.
