About Madeline

Windsong's Mission is to educate & empower students through their study of voice and / or yoga so that they can deepen their sense of self-awareness, express themseles authentically and confidently share their creativity with the world.

It is such a pleasure and privilege for me to watch students make incredible transformations in self-confidence with their singing on a daily basis. I feel deeply grateful that my vocation in life is to sing, practice yoga and teach both disciplines. It's truly amazing to watch each individual become more and more self-aware, take more risks, step into the true power of their voice, AND realize that it actually doesn't take a lot of physical effort (i.e. pushing and straining) to sing. When a student can let go of physical and mental obstacles (finding a true balance between of effort and ease), true joy, artistry and love of singing bubbles to the surface. I couldn't ask for a better profession!

How did I first stumble into yoga? ------

About halfway through my doctorate at the University of Maryland, I developed vocal nodules from very high stress levels, reflux and overuse of my voice. From there, I discovered yoga as a way to manage my stress. At my very first yoga class, I discovered that I felt so much better physically and mentally and VOCALLY I sounded better. Since that first yoga class, I've delved in (head first) into a very regular yoga practice and subsequent yoga certification. Yoga practice has had a profound influence on my singing, piano playing and most especially on my teaching. It is a joy and privilege to share all that I have learned with my students.

Dr. Miski really takes her time to tailor her lessons to the unique needs of each student. She also focuses on the totality of the voice and how you can use your body to amplify your sound. I really like how she has you think about the relationship between your voice and body.

Madeline's combined expertise in voice and yoga made her the perfect person to help me improve my breath control and posture while singing. It's easy to fall into bad habits and thankfully, Madeline was able to help me get back "in shape" as a vocalist! She is an excellent teacher and I would recommend her to anyone looking for one in the DC-area!
