About Renee

I SEW EVERYTHING...

I love creating, fabricating as well as working with fabrics and materials.

I have not officially taught professionally, but I have taught all of my 5 children and 1 grand daughter the basics. I am the teaching type, for sure. I have lots of patience.

I am self taught by the age of 9. My mother told me where the needle and thread was, and to use old clothes for fabric. I figured it out myself. By the time I was 20, I worked at an alteration shop operated by 3 older women and learned from them. I have been sewing for 40 years now.

About the lesson

First, I get to know the level of where a person is at. Asking questions like how familiar they are with hand sewing as well as having ever operated a sewing machine before. Then we go from there.

Second, setup a time and place.

I have had my grand daughter operating my sewing machine at the age of 2. I have taught my daughters step sister, how to use an embroidery machine and she loves it. She has Down Syndrome.

Find someone that is willing to teach. There are people out there that make sewing an awful experience and it shouldn't be.

Weddings. Lots of them, too. I had been Alterations Manager for David's Bridal for a few years. All dresses pinned, sewn, pressed and picked up. Never missed a wedding yet!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What type of sewing will you be doing? Repairing your own items, creating costumes, custom sewing, opening a tailor business. There are so many entities about sewing, it will make a difference. Example, if you wanted to learn to hem your own pants, I would start there. If you wanted to learn how to make clothing, we would pick out a pattern, fabrics and take measurements, then go from there.
