About George-Michael
I am a tough sculpture instructor who works my students hard, but the results are spectacular.
I'm a classically trained figurative bronze-casting sculptor from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale with a BA in Fine Arts, double specializations of drawing and sculpture, and studied under Thomas Walsh.
I work, and train students, to sculpt in clay and wax (to be fired or cast in bronze at a foundry of your choosing) in the figurative tradition.
Beginning sculpture lessons includes anatomy, drawing, sculpting, and beginning concept journaling.
Intermediate sculpture lessons includes drawing, sculpting and mold-making, and advanced concept journaling.
Advanced sculpture lessons includes refining your style and maybe looking into an exploration into abstraction, defining marketplace objectives, website preparation, considering galleries, consulting, artist resources, and portfolio development for marketplace or MFA applications.
Drawing is a necessary prerequisite for sculpture, either with me or with other instructors. For beginners, I highly suggest taking a figurative drawing class first. For intermediate, I suggest learning a sculptors drawing technique with a focus on 3D forms, light, and shadow using conte on brown or gray paper. For advanced, learn gesture to contour techniques.
My own art uses the vehicle of Angels in various situations to communicate and teach how spirits help, hurt, or engage us. I like sculpture to include visual movement rather than being stagnant; and 2D works to have visual depth and evoke emotions. My work is influenced by the 1920s Art-Nouveau era of impressionistic art, with Rodin being a favorite sculptor, and Tonalism as a favored painting style.
