About Gena

I love sharing my love of music with my students whether in person or on Facetime or Skype!

I love helping people achieve their goals! I teach classical, rock, jazz, etc. I am an experienced teacher, a member of the Rochester Piano Teachers Guild, which offers my students extra performance opportunities and so much more, including meeting other pianists and composers!

College:

Florida State University (studying under James Streem, concert pianist, composition and arranging with Charles Carter)

Eastman School of Music (studying under Frank Glazer, concert pianist, Bob Stein, jazz piano, Ray Wright, jazz arranging, arranging for musical theater)

Gena Etheridge has played piano and taught piano, clarinet, theory and composition for 20 years in Florida and New York.

Pretty much everything! I love seeing a student go from a total beginner to an accomplished player!

MTH Gena,

Thank you so much for your services at Jill and Chris’ wedding. I received several compliments on the “added touch” of music during the cocktail hour and I have you to thank for that. It was simply lovely. My best wishes to you.

"I wish I could put into words what playing on the piano means to Callah. She is so excited to show ANYONE what you've taught her...and she could talk about it all day long. She always wants to play, so we focus on giving her her own time where she wont' be interrupted by the younger two, but where my husband and I can still listen and provide praise or feedback. And the house filled with piano music is an added reward for me."

"From the minute Gena walked through the door, I knew we were a perfect fit. Her mix of linear and creative approaches to teaching piano has helped me grow as a musician and thinker. She finds ways to make small chat in-between informative instruction which helps the student's mind digest all the new musical material. Gena is a genuine person and knowledgable teacher who I would recommend to anyone :)"

"We've Had 3 lessons but so far it's been wonderful. My 5 year old enjoys Gina and her lessons. She is very good at holding her attention and gauging when my kid has had enough. We are just trying out the piano so the trial price is perfect. Gina is punctual and professional."

I attended Florida State University, studying music education, piano and music composition from many great teachers. I then transferred to the Eastman School of Music where I studied theory, composition and piano with more great teachers. I focused on jazz studies as well at Eastman.

About the lesson

First, I get to know the student and hopefully, the parents. I find out what interests them, their goals.

I choose music that helps achieve their goals as well as music that gives them a good foundation in music reading, piano technique and other aspects of music in general.
