About David
My teaching is about the student. I tailor every lesson and each material to the needs and strengths of the student, pacing their development appropriately with their desire to learn and achieve.
I enjoy the excitement that comes from success: from conquering that passage we've struggled with for weeks, from learning a song that brings special joy to the student, from seeing the student understand new and progressively more complex concepts. My joy is the student.
I discovered the joy of private teaching when I was asked by a friend to take on teaching her son, who had recently gotten too advanced to take from his previous teacher. It was a learning experience for both of us! But I soon understood what a rewarding experience it is to be able to train others to become proficient in music, and to share the joys of music itself.
As a student I took piano lessons for upwards of 14 years. I have a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree in music, and have been teaching privately since 2014. I am currently a member of the National Association of Music Educators, and I am pursuing professional development in the art of teaching music.

If the student is brand new to lessons, I will typically start with a few lessons to guage where they are at in their abilities. Then I will proceed from there in choosing method books and repertoire for lessons.
If the student is coming from a background of lessons, we will start where they left off in their existing materials, and if I find that these materials are working well, we will continue to purchase related materials. However, if I believe that the materials used by a previous teacher were either insufficient or not well-matched to the student, I will suggest another track of materials better suited.
I have worked with students all the way from Kindergarten to pre-college level.
Look for a teacher who cares. Credentials are important, but not crucial. Some of the best teachers are those who care enough to go above and beyond in their lessons to insure that each and every student receives a passion and drive that will carry them on in their own musical journey. Find a teacher who loves students as much as they love music.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Individual learning styles and abilities must be considered. Think through your own goals, as well. Why do you want to learn music? What music do you want to learn? Are their other disciplines within music that you might be open to learning?
Recommendations

David Galvin has been teaching my kids piano and voice for years now. My kids always look forward to their lessons with him. He’s great with all ages, and I cannot recommend him highly enough!!
David is a patient and encouraging teacher who is able to motivate students to advance in their skills without causing undue pressure or anxiety. He worked well with my daughter who is shy and was somewhat overwhelmed by the transition to junior high while taking lessons. Although she practiced less than I had hoped, David patiently worked with her to improve her skills and confidence on the piano.
He was easy to work with and individualized the classes to each students needs and style.
David is very well versed in all types of music education! He is the greatest teacher I ever had!
Amazing teacher!!! You will learn so much!
Mr. Galvin is devoted to teaching music as much as he is growing the student.
My two daughters took lessons from Mr. Galvin and he is great! He is patient and always encouraging them. I would recommend him to my friends and family!
