About Esther
I taught music lessons in a private school in Nova Scotia for 10 years before moving to the United States in 2015. At this private school setting, I taught piano, voice, percussion and drama. I worked with all ages from preschool to grade 12. I love working with children and thinking up new and exciting ways to learn and grow. I have a passion for bonding with teenagers and giving them hope for the future and cultivating pathways of success. I have a special spot in my heart for working with adults because I still love to study and know the thrill of new learning as an adult. As an added bonus, I am studied in the holistic approach of the Russian school of music and can make music come alive in the mind as well as the fingers. I teach each student as an individual finding his or her strengths and taking him or her to the highest level. I graduated this past May of 2021 from Eastern Connecticut State University with a Bachelor of Arts in piano performance. Playing the piano at all levels is fun. Let's do it together.
I love to teach and see students light up with passion at the music that comes out of their fingers. I am thrilled to see progression and inspiration increase as new levels of proficiency are reached.
Parents of several families in my neighborhood came to my house and asked me to teach their children piano. Church families also asked me to teach their children music, especially piano.
I taught music in a private school in Nova Scotia for 10 years before moving on to further my education. There I gave piano lesson emphasising all aspects like posture, sound quality, ear-training and sight-reading, theory, historical background, scales and arpeggios, and classical repertoire. I also worked in group settings teaching singing, drama, and percussion. I also took lessons in other instruments such as trumpet, trombone, clarinet, classical guitar and learned flute, saxophone, accordion, and autoharp in my free time. I played piano and trombone in university concert band.

I begin by trying to find student's strengths -- what is fun and exciting. After inspiring my students, I emphasize posture and hand position. As time goes on, I introduce sight-reading and ear-training, scales and arpeggios, and theory along with the classical repertoire to increase finger skill and conceptual understanding.
I have worked with all ages from preschoolers to teenagers to adults.

My most recent event was my senior recital on May 1, 2021. It was the highlight of my performance degree, and it felt like a huge accomplishment.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Is the teacher trustworthy?
Does the teacher have a compassion for the student's personal needs that go beyond the bounds of music?
Does this teacher's style instruct and motivate?

Esther started teaching our six-year-old daughter piano lessons at our home a few weeks ago. I cannot say enough good things about her. Esther is great with kids; she is energetic and fun. She keeps our daughter engaged for the full lesson and gives reasonable practice material. Esther is patient and flexible in her schedule. She even offered a free trial to make sure they would be a good match! I highly recommend!
My children love working with Esther! She is very encouraging and positive, and easily adjusts to each of my children's learning styles and ability levels. We love that she comes to our house and always wears a mask and offers to remove her shoes (we are not that fancy but the gesture is appreciated!). She is always on-time and her rates are very reasonable. My children just love her and they are learning a great deal - that in itself makes her 5 stars!
It has been wonderful working with Ester! The children look forward to their lessons. She has them doing book work along with playing so it really makes the lessons varied.
