About Aminah

I have been taking photos for as long as I can remember. I wouldn’t say that I’ve had any formal training, but I took a film photography class in college and studied with a famous photographer while living in Korea. I would say Korea influenced a lot of my photography since I grew as a photographer and person while there for six years. Korean fashion is also something that interests me because you really can’t find anything like it. I enjoy fashion and lifestyle photography. I have been trying to branch out more and try different styles. I enjoy natural light and off camera flash so whatever you’d like to learn, I can teach you.

Well first off, I LOVE photography. I think you have to love what you teach in order to teach it well. And second, I know what it's like to enjoy photography and want to get better, but not really know how or where to start. I just enjoy being that teacher that I didn't have for the longest time.

I have been a teacher even before I was teaching. I helped everyone I knew with whatever knowledge I had when I was younger. While in Korea I taught English to a variety of students.

I have studied with a well-known photographer in Korea and after taking his class, continued to work with him on his personal projects.

About the lesson

I like to get to know the student and find out their style and process. Everyone does things differently and it’s best to teach in a way they learn. With that being said, I think it’s also beneficial for students to learn many styles starting out to find what they like most.

I’ve worked with all ages and all levels. Teaching English is difficult when you are a native speaker, however it helped me improve my English and become a better teacher of all subjects honestly. When you have to learn how to teach something that comes naturally to you, it really gives you perspective and understand the student.

I would definitely find a teacher you can relate to. I am finding that the artist community (especially photography) can make newcomers feel unwelcome and it makes it hard to start out and ask questions. Definitely find someone you can feel comfortable with.

I recently just shot a newborn session for my husband’s coworker. It was so amazing. I don’t often shoot newborns so I lack experience there, but the learning process was so fun. I like being challenged in photography. It reminds me that everyone will always be a student.
