About Dawn

I love to see my students WOW themselves.

I work from my home or the Full Circle Nine Gallery downtown (free parking).

I worked as an contractor for about a year and a half with an independant artist who did private group art parties.

I'm primarily self-taught. I worked as an contractor with an independant artist who did private group art parties. She taught me A LOT about the business of art! Our styles were similar so the energy we shared while painting together brought out the best in my creativity. I grew by leaps and bounds while working with her.

About the lesson

I usually do private parties so I typically am addressing a group. I try to make the experience as fun as possible and hope that my love of painting is contagious for my students. I am just starting to explore providing private lessons, but I think my approach would be the same. I don't take myself too seriously. I love teaching art and watching people go, "Ah-ha, so that's how you do that!"

I have worked with all ages and genders. This type of thing typically attracts women. I love it when I have a class that has a few men show up. My classes aren't at all 'girly,' they are silly and fun, so if the guys were dragged there by their significant other, they quickly lose their "I don't want to be here" face and get into the fun!

Don't work with someone who is too serious. Painting is a joy. The act of learning to paint should also be a joy!

I have participated for three years as an 'en plein air' artist for the Irvington Garden Tour. I love to paint landscapes and flowers, so the gig is a dream for me....as long as my Muse shows up the day of the Tour!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
If I were searching for an instructor, my primary concerns would be pricing and scheduling flexibility. Classes do not have to cost a lot - I've put a lot of research into my pricing structure for the level I'm at now. I think that per canvas is fair to me and the student. It takes into account supplies costs and my time and keeps things simple. I mean who wants to do math while they are supposed to be having fun!

Details

I basically charge "per canvas." The prices range from $15-$35 for the typical sizes that students like to work with. I am still working on figuring out if that price structure works for one-on-one lessons, which are generally shorter than the 2-3 hour party format.
