About Andrew

I am a professional oboist and teacher who offers oboe lessons for students of all ages! I have a Bachelor of Music degree in oboe from Southern Illinois University Carbondale and a Master of Music degree in oboe from the Chicago College of Performing Arts of Roosevelt University. I am currently offering lessons online, with the possibility of in-person lessons in the future.

I have been teaching since 2016. I teach students not only proper oboe playing technique but as well as how to practice efficiently, self-evaluation, and how to bring expression and musicality into one's playing. I tailor my individual instruction to meet students' individual needs in order to help them grow as musicians and achieve their goals. I love sharing my passion for music and oboe with students. For interested students, I also teach reed making! My students are lauded for their skills and perform with various youth orchestras, regional and All-state ensemble, and are accepted into excellent university music programs.

In addition to private lessons, I work with oboe students at Birch Creek Music Performance Center in Door County, Wisconsin, assisting them not only with oboe but with the skills needed to successfully play in a professional orchestral setting. I have also worked as a teaching artist with Bocal Majority, which provides quality double reed camps throughout the country.

As an active performer, I have the privilege to perform with many groups in the Chicagoland area including Elgin Symphony Orchestra, Rockford Symphony Orchestra, Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra, and New Philharmonic Orchestra.

I enjoy what I do because I create beauty in the world. Music is a universal art form that is understood in all the world's cultures. I believe that the joy music can bring us should be shared. Teaching students is a great joy! I enjoy seeing students grow and evolve into mature musicians. Watching students overcome the challenges of the oboe and take command of the instrument is one of my most favorite aspects of the job.
