About Vasant

I am a maths enthusiast!

The purpose behind this exercise is to to use my knowledge, skills and passion of high school level subjects related to Arithmatic, Algebra, Geometry, Trignometry etc, to help/guide students who need some such guidance(if some money is generated out of this endevour, its a bonus for me).

I started out in this line couple of years back, after my superannuation from regular formal employment.

I am a senior citizen; age 64 years.

I am an alumnus of IIT, Mumbai(Bombay), a welknown institution of higher learning in India, having gratuated in Chemical Engineering.

So far I have logged about 50 hours engaging students of VII to X grade.

As I mentioned before, after retirement from my formal job, I had no commitments or bindings. I wanted to make best use of my free time in some productive manner, and in the activity that I enjoy doing. So I started out in informal teaching.

As I mentioned, i am an engineer, so it is obvious that I have studied Maths quite extensively. I may also mention that I did very well in maths in my school days and in SSC exam(11th grade)

I keept my interest in these subjects alive thereafter, and tried to put it to use whenever possible.

About the lesson

I believe in incremental progress. working step by step, ensuring that student understands current step before going for next, that may be somewhat more difficult. It is better to bite only what you can chew.

I have so far guided students of 4th, 7th and 9th grade in maths.

I would tell the the students that there is no alternative hard work. you may find a teacher who is highly qualified, experienced, skilled, but at the end of the day it is you who have to attempt the exam, he is not going to do it for you.

My one advice is that you should have tables up to 30 by heart. That would save you invaluable time where it matters most.

I will describe an incident during my working life. I was witnessing a joint testing of an equipment with its supplier's rep. the process involved some geometric and trignmetric calculations. the angle was set erroniously by suppliers team, that would give wrong results. I explained and convinced them the correct angle to be set, which made the test more stringent, but they had to accept it.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
The students should be clear about what they expect from the teacher, therefore they should select/shortlist the problematic areas where they wish to be helped.
