About Travis

I have a Bachelors degree in civil engineering where I have taken extensive math courses to achieve my degree. I have a great understanding of math and the patience to work and understand that different students require different approaches to learning. I am willing to put the time in to figure out how to best approach each individual student in their own way to learn as much as they can.

I enjoy interacting and helping people. People come to me with problems, issues, questions, and it's my job to get the answer and/or help them get to a solution.

Math is my strongest subject. However, there were times I was in class completely lost and didn't understand what was going on. I learned that it's not always that a student isn't good at a subject, it's just the way they are taught it. I wanted to help students understand that, because once I figured that out and I was taught math in a way that I understood, it was easy and fun. I took it all the way through to my career in engineering. Not only do I want to help students understand math now, but also I want to give them tips and tricks on how to approach things in different ways on their own so they can understand things in the future independently.

I help train new hires on our standard processes and procedures and work with them on several new projects until they are independent on the matter. Additionally, I held tutoring sessions throughout college for 2 hours on Saturday mornings to help classmates that had struggles with subject matter.

About the lesson

First, I like to meet or have a phone call and get to know the student on a personal level. Interests, hobby's, etc. This can help provide the student with comfort and help me cater my teaching methods to the student to help them learn and understand the subject matter and to keep the material as fun, interesting, and relatable as possible for the future sessions. After the initial meeting I like to make a schedule of how often tutoring is required and when (which can fluctuate due to the students progress). In each meeting I like to have the student bring up the material that is needed to be worked and and delve into what they are having issues on. I like to go through brief lessons and work through several applied problems so they can get a lot of experience with the questions and how to attack them. Each session will be a teaching lesson to help them understand it and several problems and answers that we will work together on until they get the hang of it and can confidently solvs the questions themselves without my help.

Mostly college and highschool students. A few elementary school kids.

I just recently graduated from Cleveland State University with a bachelors in Civil Engineering and got a job within my field!

Typically, I like to do an hourly rate at $15/hr. I am always open to different payment options and systems depending on situations. My number one goal is to help students learn.
