About John

I have tutored high school for a little over 2 years and I am a former substitute teacher who loves to help students thrive. I seek to provide students with a complete understanding of their material.

My mother has been an elementary special education teacher for over 30 years and for the last 2 years she encouraged me to become a tutor for a few of her students. My students' parents liked my methods and hired me to assist them in middle school. I was then hired by some high school students by math and science teachers giving out my information. For college, I attended Baylor University for 3 semesters and after my first semester, I started tutoring students in microbiology, chemistry, and Anatomy and Physiology.

I have been a tutor for k-12 students for over 2 years, a tutor for college students in the health sciences for over a year, and I am a former elementary and middle school substitute teacher. I have the training and 2 years of experience in assisting students with dyslexia and ADD.

About the lesson

With a new student, I like to take a few minutes to have them explain their material to the best of their ability to get a baseline of where we are at. I then help them decipher their progress and fill in any holes and concepts they have left out. I have found that guiding the student to the correct answer and letting them figure out the material is best for their learning.

I have worked with k-12 students for over 2 years, college students, and I have training and experience with assisting those with ADD and/or dyslexia.

First and foremost look for a teacher with experience.

A study from Ohio State University showed significant evidence that preschoolers who were categorized as having special needs or disabilities were able to perform better while learning from a mainstream classroom setting.
