About Kaylea

Math is complicated- it is. And everyone needs a different approach to learning it. I want to find out how you can learn math best so that you can find joy in it and succeed in your area of interest. Math is my passion and I want to make my students even just a little bit more passionate about math.

I love teaching. I tutored a student for math when I was in highschool for algebra and I currently teach swim lessons to kids 4mo-12 years. I love being able to see the smiles on peoples faces when they finally understand these complex yet beautiful concepts.

I always loved explaining and teaching math to my peers but my first paid tutoring job was in 2019 and I started teaching swim lessons in August of 2022.

I am currently pursuing a mathematics degree with a teaching certification and hope to teach highschool algebra-calculus. I've tutored before and I have experience in teaching children.

About the lesson

First, I want to get an understanding of what areas the student needs help in, and what prior subjects they are able to build their knowledge on. Math builds on itself, so relating concepts back to the basics is important. Then, as I work with the student I am constantly observing to see how they learn and how I can teach the concepts in a way that they will be able to grasp.

Primarily children, ages 4mo-17 years. I have experience with a diverse population of students with different backgrounds and experience level.

Be open to learning even if you're discouraged. I promise getting answers wrong is not a bad thing and it can only help you in the long run.

At the swim school I teach at, one of my students recently leveled up and it was so exciting to see them excited at their ability.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I know it's cliche, but what parts do you not understand. It can be easy to look at a difficult problem and think I don't get any of this. However, It's important to look at a problem and ask yourself what part of this do I know and start there, even if it's just writing one symbol. Writing down your thoughts is important. So start with what you know and figure out where you get stuck.
