About Myles
I am experienced with Virtual Teaching and have all equipment needed for success in a virtual setting including document cams, virtual white boards, textbooks, and a catelog of handwritten notes. For a short example class feel free to check out my up-and-coming YouTube channel, Math With Myles. It is still in its early stages but with time it will be full of useful math lessons.
I teach math with the primary goal to gain intuition. I do not believe in blind memorization when it comes to math. I believe in developing an intuition for problems so that memorization is replaced with understanding.
I just love teaching in general. I genuinely enjoy other people and I am good at what I do because of my compassionate approach. I will help you see math as a puzzle to be solved as opposed to a problem with a black and white method of completion.
I have always loved teaching anything I am passionate about. For most of my adult life I have been teaching yoga, both domestically and aboad. More recently I have landed a dream job teaching math, physics and yoga at a private school in Seattle.
I have a BA in physics and a minor in math from Florida State University, and I am currently a math and physics teacher at a school in Seattle. I also am a certified yoga and meditation instructor. Seemlingly unrelated at first, the practices of yoga help develop a true sense of compassion and awareness towards my students and their struggles in math. I am still young (27 years old) so it is not hard for me to remember and relate to the struggles of learning and going through high school.

I start by getting to know my student and their current relationship to math. Do they enjoy it? Do they hate it? Understanding their past experiences helps me identitfy how to move forwards. If the student is strong in math, we will work on filling in knowledge gaps and fixing common mistakes. If they are a little bit behind or lack confidence the goal is to increase the students confidence in math and remove the negative self talk that is so often the root cause of their struggles.
All levels and ages. Where I teach, all classes are one-on-one so I am blessed with a wide range of students and I teach pre-algebra all the way up to honors calculus Some students are very advanced for their age and show great problem solving skills while other students work a little sloweer and need more scaffolding. I have worked with kids on the autism spectrum aswell as students who deal with clinical depression and anxiety. I simply love to teach regardless of the student.
Find a teacher that you feel you can relate to and respect. Don't look for an easy class or the most intelligent tutor you can find. You need a tutor who can relate to your misunderstandings and help you bring intuition back into the math classroom.
I recently had one of my juniors in my honors precalc class express his reingited joy of math after two years of degrading and unkind teachers that he had at public schools. Before coming to my classes he felt done with math and now he has expressed going to college for something math related.

I really loved working with him. He helped me come to enjoy doing some parts of math when before I didn't at all. I liked working together on some problems, then doing them separately and coming back together to check work. I liked his passion for math, it really rubs off on you and makes it a very positive environment. Lastly I enjoyed his more in depth explanations to help understand different problems. Going in depth on some of these problems help you not just memorize but understand what your working on.
