About Grace

Hello! My name is Grace and I am a senior in high school. I have been tutoring during and after school for two years, and I have found that I really like helping students improve! I have worked with kids ages 8-16 and for a variety of subjects like math, science, and writing!

I have always had an interest in helping people learn and grow, so I decided to join my school’s Academic Resource Center at the beginning of my sophomore year! I quickly began tutoring my peers and to date I have tutored five students.

I have tutored at my school’s Academic Resource Center for two years, and I help my school’s librarian match students to tutors for the Center. I have also completed three years of high school and have taken courses such as Precalculus Accelerated, Chemistry Honors, Physics Honors, AP US History, and Spanish 4 Honors. I am planning to graduate with an Advanced Regents diploma from my high school.

About the lesson

I will have a conversation about how my student learns and does in class, and what areas of learning they struggle with most. As I work with them I will get to know how they think and how I can help adjust their way of thinking or learning so that they can improve.

I have worked with sophomores and juniors in math and science, and I have worked with one elementary school student in general class work.

You should look for someone genuine. To me it is not about the money, as I mainly tutor as a volunteer at school. I feel most gratified by the experience, and I truly want to help students see the potential that they have.

I have tutored one student twice over a span of two years and at the end of this past year, she confided in me that she felt she could get more help from me than her teacher. Over the two years I had also seen her grow more confident in herself as a student, and I saw her become a better learner.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should think about why they want to improve. If you know what your goal is, it will be easier for your teacher to help you achieve it. It is also important to understand your style of learning. If you don’t know that, your teacher should be able to help you.
